RE'03 Participants,

Unfortunately the entire block of rooms originally contracted at the special RE03 rate have now been reserved. Although this original rate is no longer available, the hotel is offering us an additional block of rooms at $164 UNTIL AUGUST 22nd.

We have been experiencing some problems with the hotel staff informing people that the rooms are all sold out, so please let me know if you experience any additional problems. These prices are guaranteed until August 22nd.

Alternate Hotel Accommodation

We have also found an alternate hotel, situated less than a mile from the Embassy Suites hotel. The Bay Breeze Econo Lodge will give us a $79 per night rate for a single room as long as space is available. Taxi cabs are also available for aproximately $5 between the hotel and the conference venue.

RESERVATION INFORMATION

All reservations will be made by individuals by telephone (+1-831-393-1115) or by fax (+1-831-393-1113). Fax form is available here. Per the hotel, this will ensure that you get the correct pricing. The hotel will then send a return fax with your confirmation number.

You can also registrate your room online by click this link: Online Hotel Registration (Will be available after the reservation CODE is fixed). Attendees will reference IEEE Computer Society RE when making reservations. The reservation cut-off date will be Friday, 15 August 2003 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time. Reservations received after this date will be accepted by the Hotel on a space available basis at the conference rates.

The Hotel will require a deposit in advance from individual guests to guarantee a particular reservation. To guarantee an individual reservation, a guest must either (1) send a check or money order covering the first night's room rate plus applicable sales tax, or (2) send a signed letter authorizing the Hotel to charge the room deposit and applicable sales tax to the guest's major credit card and include card number and expiration date, or (3) give the guest's major credit card by telephone. Guaranteed reservation are held until at least 6:00 am the following morning, at which time the reservation and deposit are forfeited. The Society will not guarantee payment for no shows.

The Hotel's check-in time is 4:00 pm and check-out time is 12:00 pm. Guests are permitted to check in earlier or check out later subject to room availability.

ROOM RATES

Unfortunately all of the rooms contracted at the original conference rate have now been reserved. However the hotel confirms the following rates for anyone registering prior to August 15th.

Single: $164.00
Double: $164.00

These rates are exclusive of applicable sales/room tax, currently twelve point zero four five (12.045) percent.

Hotel Information

Note: Embassy Suites offers complimentary shuttle service to and from the Monterey Peninsula Airport.

In general San Francisco International (SFO) should be the destination for international travelers. Alternate San Francisco Bay Area airports are San Jose International (SJC) and Oakland International (OAK). From SFO travelers have the option of driving the 100 miles to the Embassy Suites Hotel in Monterey or taking one of the commuter flights from SFO to Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY). Embassy Suites offers a shuttle between MRY and the hotel. UNITED AIRLINES offers direct flights from SFO to MRY (operated by United Express/Skywest) to MRY. The driving distance from OAK is about 100 miles and SJC 70 miles.

Driving directions from SFO and SJC: Take highway US-101 South towards Salinas. Take California Highway 156 to California Highway 1 to Monterey. Embassy Suites will be on your left as you approach Monterey.

Driving directions from OAK: Take Interstate I-880 south to US Highway US-101 south towards Salinas. Take California Highway 156 to California Highway 1 to Monterey. Embassy Suites will be on your left as you approach Monterey.

Warning: Yahoo Maps recommends that you drive south on California Highway 17 from San Jose to Santa Cruz and go south on California Highway 1 to Monterey. Take this route only if you are up for an adventure. The 20 miles between Los Gatos and Scotts Valley can be dangerous during excellent driving conditions. Heavy traffic, night, rain and/or fog can enhance the adventure.

If travelers are going to Los Angeles (LAX), there are commuter flights between LAX and MRY. The drive is about 400 miles so allow all day. California Highway 1 is a beautiful drive but it takes over eight hours to drive the distance.
