Sixth IEEE International Workshop on Selected Topics in Wireless and Mobile computing (STWiMob 2013)

Papers selected for this workshop are the ones with the review scores near/borderline the acceptance threshold at WiMob 2013.

International Workshop on Community Networks and Bottom-up-Broadband (CNBuB 2013)

Community networking, together with the Bottom-up-Broadband initiative, is an emerging model for the Future Internet across Europe and beyond where communities of citizens build, operate and own open IP-based networks, a key infrastructure for individual and collective digital participation. To support the growth of community networking and bottom-up-broadband in society, it is necessary to improve the state-of-the-art in design, operation, and evolution of community networks. Towards this objective, the networking and systems research community has the opportunity to contribute with more sustainable, adaptive, scalable, integrated, autonomic solutions.For more information, please see the official workshop website in here.

e-Health Pervasive Wireless eHPWAS Applications and Services (eHPWAS 2013)

The international workshop on e-Health Pervasive Wireless Applications and Services e-HPWAS'13 (in conjunction with the 9th IEEE WiMob conference) targets providing optimal, secured and context aware e-health services with the best quality of services (QoS) and user’s experience (QoE). Applications and services are considered in wireless environments and architecture with a strong heterogeneity of the used access technologies, sensors, terminals, users’ needs and services (data, content, live streams or complex network services). Emerging e-Health services and applications can involve the use of “heavy” content such as multimedia content and streams (e.g. 3D-TV, media conferencing, remote live diagnostics) using conventional e-health equipments and devices but also using modern devices like smart TV sets, home-boxes, smartphones and tablets. The considered issues of e-HPWAS are related to e-Health care and safety services provided for patients, elderly and dependent persons. These services are generally built using different communication technologies, for different profiles of people and in different contexts and places (e.g. in health institutions, at home, in the city). GReen Optimized Wireless Networks (GROWN 2013)

Nowadays, we are witnessing a huge increase in the number of mobile subscribers and also the forecast on telecommunication market assumes an increase per subscriber’s data rate and the roll out of additional base stations for next generation mobile networks. An undesired consequence is the growth of wireless network’s energy consumption that will cause an increase of the global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and impose more and more challenging operational cost for operators. This has initiated the need to innovate in the field of energy efficient communications. Also rapid global economic development has led to energy shortage and environmental pollution. That’s why the worldwide growing energy demands have been recognized as a major challenge that needs to be urgently addressed in order to have a sustainable future. The Information and Communications Technology sector (ICT) is one of the sectors with the highest potential to reduce the growing worldwide electricity consumption if appropriate measures are taken in a timely manner. Internet of Things Communications and Technologies (IoT 2013)

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a novel design paradigm, envisioned as a network of billions or trillions of machines communicating with one another and rapidly gaining global attention from academia, industry, and government. IoT is recognized as one of the most important areas of the future Internet; enabling ubiquitous computing among global networked machines and physical objects. Equipped with auto identification devices such a RFID tags in addition to sensors, actuators and machine-to-machine (M2M) devices, IoT has applications in a wide variety of areas such as smart grid, e-health, intelligent transportation, and logistics. The proposed International Workshop on the Internet of Things Communications and Technologies aims to provide a forum that brings together researchers from academia, practitioners from industry, standardization bodies, and government to meet and exchange ideas on recent research and future directions for the IoT. The technical discussion will be focused on the communications aspects and key enabling technologies for IoT, especially M2M communications and networking, RFID technology and Near Field Communications (NFC).
