Algorithmics for Network Visualization

Abstract: Good Information Visualization is a multidisciplinary effort, with support from a wide variety of research areas. These include perceptual psychology, graphic art, computer graphics, and information retrieval. In particular, some of the contributions to Information Visualization have come from classical algorithmics. Further, Information Visualization inspires scientific questions in algorithmics. In this talk we examine the connections between algorithmics and Information Visualization.

Peter Eades obtained a PhD in Mathematics from the Australian National University in 1978. He holds the Chair of Software Technology at the University of Sydney, and concurrently holds a position at National ICT Australia (NICTA). Previously, he has held academic positions at the University of Queensland (1978 - 1991) and the University of Newcastle (1992 - 2000), as well as visiting positions at the University of Louisiana, Fujitsu Research Laboratories, McGill University, and the University of Limerick.

Peter's main research interest is information visualisation - in particular, software visualisation, financial visualisation, algorithms (especially geometric algorithms), graph drawing and program analysis.
