Xi'an is one of the oldest cities in the world with a vivid and rich history
and culture. It is not only the birthplace of the Chinese Nation, but also
the birthplace of human civilization in Asia and the cultural center of prehistoric
civilization. As such, Xi'an has a wealth of historical sites and relics
to visit and see and is a great place to introduce yourself to Chinese history.
There are many attractive sceneries in Xi’an like Terracotta Army, Mount Hua,
Huaqing Pool and so on.
- Terracotta Army:
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting
the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form
of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BC and whose purpose
was to protect the emperor in his afterlife, and to make sure that he
had people to rule over. The figures vary in height according to their
roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors,
chariots and horses. Current estimates are that in the three pits containing
the Terracotta Army there were over 8,000 soldiers,130 chariots with
520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried
in the pits near by Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.
- Mount Hua:
Mount Hua is located in the Qinling Mountain Range, which is one of
the five sacred Taoist mountains in China. Hua Mountain is well known
for its sheer cliffs and plunging ravines. It is known as “the most precipitous
mountain under heaven” and is probably the most dangerous mountain in
the world frequented by hikers. Hua Mountain is located 120 kilometers
east of Xi'an, about 3 hours from the city center. There are five peaks
that make up the mountain: Cloud Terrace Peak (North Peak, 1613m), Jade
Maiden Peak (Middle Peak, 2042m), Sunrise Peak (East Peak, 2100m), Lotus
Peak (West Peak, 2038m) and Landing Wild Goose Peak (South Peak, 2160m).
North Peak, the lowest of the five, is the starting point. It has three
ways up it: the six kilometers winding track from Huashan village, the
cable car or the path beneath it.
- Huaqing Pools:
The Huaqing Pool is located in the Lintong District 30 km east to the
urban area of Xian. With Mount. Li to its south and the Wei River to
its north, it boasts the natural hot springs. The favorable geographical
condition and natural environment make it one of the cradles where ancient
people settled. It was also a favorite place for emperors to build their
palaces as a resort. Since ancient times, it has ever been a famous bathing
and tourist destination.
- Ancient City Wall:
Xian City Wall was constructed in the early Ming Dynasty on the basis
of the Imperial City of Chang An (Everlasting Peace) of the Tang Dynasty.
It is also a symbol of great significance of the famous historic cultural
city of Xian.
- Xian Bell Tower and Drum Tower:
Each Ming Dyansty city had a bell tower and a drum tower. Xian was not
exception. The Bell Tower and Drum Tower of Xi'an date back to the Ming
dynasty (1368-1644).
- Xian Great Mosque:
The Great Mosque of Xian is the biggest and most preserved complete
Chinese existent mosque. The temple constructs at the Tianbao first year
(742 years) during Tang Dynasty, was rebuilt by Song, Yuan, Ming and
Qing.
- Xian Big Goose Pagoda:
Big Goose Pagoda is one of the oldest structures in China. Originally
Big Goose Pagoda consisted of a brick structure of five storeys and was
about 60 meters high.
- Shaanxi Provincial History Museum:
The Shaanxi History Museum, a large modern museum of the national level,
is situated 1km away, northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It is a
giant architectural complex in the Tang-dynasty style. Free for entrance,
but need ID/Passport.
