2nd Workshop on Data and Knowledge Engineering for E-service and E-business (DKEEE'09)
(October 21-23, 2009, Macau, China, in conjunction with ICEBE 2009)
The strategic capabilities of today’s businesses rely on automatic systems centred on efficient
and flexible data processing, which continues to constitute a big challenge in its supporting
technologies including services technologies. The challenge is to overcome the barriers due
to the ever increasing data amount, the heterogeneous or conflicting data representations,
and the new data processing requirements in various Web services lifecycle steps spanning
the entire business value chain. The most recent advances in services technologies help to
reduce some of the processing and operation barriers in services systems of all scales.
Meanwhile, they introduce more complexity on data and knowledge engineering to the tasks
of creating service solutions for business problems.
Examples of current and emerging challenges range from data intensive service applications
and service systems in the phenomenal software as services, to service data and metadata
management for efficient and effective service discovery, publication and composition, to
service mining and query to allow intelligent and efficient service management, to business
activity monitoring for insightful understanding of the business behaviour; to business event
notification and subscription in various Web services applications, and to database
middleware of service related to ontologies. Many of these challenges can only be tackled
through inter-disciplinary efforts on designing, developing, applying and validating techniques
and methodologies from database, machine learning, distributed systems, and service
science and engineering.
This workshop aims to call for such inter-disciplinary efforts and also to provide an
international forum for researchers, educators, practitioners and policy-makers from academia,
industry, governments and organizations to discuss and present their ideas and development
in foundations and application of data and knowledge engineering in services computing. We
seek paper submissions on all topics related to advances of data and knowledge engineering
in services computing, including but not limited to:
- Service data and knowledge engineering foundations
- Service data management and analysis
- Service metadata management in service registry/repository
- Service mining
- Service query
- Data and knowledge management in service-oriented businesses
- Business activity and process monitoring
- Business data modelling and management
- Business event notification and subscription
- Web services and data management
- Database middleware for service ontology management
- Services compositions
- Service oriented sensor data processing
- Web services applications
- Web services workflow
Papers must be submitted electronically. The format of submitted papers should follow the
guidelines for the IEEE conference proceedings, limited to 6 pages. All papers will be
peer reviewed by at least three reviewers. Accepted papers will be published in the workshop
proceedings of the ICEBE 2009 by the IEEE CS Press. At least one of the authors of each
accepted paper must register as a full participant of the workshop to have the paper published
in the proceedings. Please submit papers in PDF format through the following link:
