Workshop

1st Interdisciplinary Workshop on Smart Textiles for Healthcare Applications

In conjunction with IEEE/ACM CHASE 2024 on June 19-21, 2024, in Wilmington, DE.

Smart textiles, also known as smart fabrics or e-textiles, are materials that incorporate electronic components or nanotechnology to offer additional functionalities beyond traditional textiles such as sensing, monitoring, and responding to environmental conditions or user inputs. Unlike conventional electronic circuits, which are limited to substrate rigidity, fragility, and processing size, smart textiles provide new opportunities in wearable technology especially for healthcare applications where flexibility, comfort, and integration with textiles are essential. Collaborative efforts between academic institutions, textile manufacturers, and technology companies contribute to the research and development of smart textiles, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives and expertise in this rapidly evolving field.

The workshop aims to bring together researchers, practitioners in smart textiles to share insights into the ideas, problems, methods, technologies, and findings for smart textile technologies that include, but not limited to:.

  • Sensing: Detect various parameters such as temperature, pressure, humidity, motion, and physiological data like heart rate and respiration rate.
  • Actuation: React to stimuli by triggering actions such as shape, stiffness, or by generating heat or vibration.
  • Communication: Integrate with communication technologies such as RFID or NFC to transmit data wirelessly.
  • Thermal Regulation:Adapt to changes in temperature, providing heating or cooling as needed.
  • Health Monitoring:Monitor vital signs or other health parameters, making smart textiles useful for applications in healthcare and wellness.
  • Registration

This workshop will be hybrid. Register to attend for virtual attendees.
