Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging technology area in recent years. Market research has predicted that by 2020, more than 50 billion smart devices will be deployed and connected to Internet, serving people anytime and anywhere. IoT has created a lot of excitement on IT due to many new, innovative, and potentially game-changing products such as smart watch, learning thermostat, and remote security. It is now the focus of many leading IT companies. New devices have been developed using IoT technologies, for sensing and collecting information to understand user needs, and for composing and deploying services to make lives easier.
There are many application domains that IoT technology can provide very useful services, such as healthcare, transportation, infrastructure and home. In healthcare, sensors and wearable devices can be used to detect the health condition of patients and senior citizens. In transportation applications, drivers can become fully aware of the road conditions and accidents. The sensors inside of a building can warn the resident when abnormal situations happen. In a home environment, sensors can be used to detect the context and users' behaviors, which can be analyzed to predict user intentions and to set up the environment.
The IoT Services (IoTS) Workshop is organized to provide a forum where researchers and practitioners can meet to discuss issues related to developing new services using the IoT technologies. We invite papers related to IoT based service modeling, design, engineering, and application. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- IoT service architecture
- IoT middleware support
- Security, trust, and privacy issues in IoT
- Identity management in IoT
- Trustworthiness in IoT
- Data analytics for IoT services
- Machine-to-Machine (M2M) services
- Smart care applications
- Smart transportation systems
- Smart manufacturing and factory
- Sensing and device technology for IoT
- User experience in IoT
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that are not being considered in another forum. Manuscripts will be limited to 5 (IEEE style) pages. Please follow the IEEE Computer Society Press Proceedings Author Guidelines to prepare your papers with 8.5'' x 11'', two-column format. The paper formatting instructions are available at http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting.
Papers accepted in the workshop will be included as part of the IEEE Proceedings for the 7th IEEE Conference on Service Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA 2014) .
We also invite posters that focus on any relevant topics of the workshop, in which work in progress or even ideas not yet mature but maybe interesting to the community can be presented. Student projects or any other relevant studies are also welcome. The poster sessions will be scheduled during the workshop. Poster presenters will need to bring their own posters to the workshop venue on the poster presentation dates. Detailed instructions on poster preparation will be included in acceptance notification. Poster boards and pushpins will be provided by the workshop.
Please submit the manuscripts and/or poster abstracts to the workshop co-chair, Prof. Chen-Mou (Doug) Cheng, by email (ccheng(at)imi.kyushu-u.ac.jp) before September 10, 2014.
The important dates are:
- Manuscript/abstract submission due: September 10, 2014
- Acceptance notification: September 18, 2014
- Camera-ready submission: September 26, 2014
