2021 IEEE SERVICES Call for Workshops

Call for Workshop Proposals

The 2021 IEEE World Congress on Services will be held as an all-online virtual event. SERVICES 2021 is solely sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society under the auspice of the Technical Committee on Services Computing (TCSVC). The IEEE World Congress on Services (IEEE SERVICES) 2021 will cover all aspects of services computing and applications, current and emerging. It covers various systems and networking research pertaining to cloud, edge and Internet-of-Things (IoT), as well as technologies for intelligent computing, learning, big data and blockchain applications, while addressing critical requirements such as high performance, security, privacy, dependability, trustworthiness, re-usability, interoperability, and cost-effectiveness.

The themes of workshop proposals should be closely related to, but not adequately covered by the current topics addressed by IEEE SERVICES 2021 or the workshops in SERVICES 2020 (see https://conferences.computer.org/services/2020/workshops/). If you like to propose a topic that overlaps with a previous workshop, please get in touch and we will see how we can align your interests into the existing workshop program.

We particularly encourage workshop proposals in emerging and critical areas such as:

  • Public Health Innovation and Policy
  • Network Services (including Network Management Services)
  • Service-oriented Human-Computer Interaction
  • Heterogeneous Infrastructures
  • Data Quality as a Service
  • Mobility as a Service
  • Collaboration as a Service
  • IoT Sustainability Services
  • Data Protection, Ethics and Policy
  • Fintech and Disruptive Services
  • Disaster and Emergency Response Services

Workshop proposals should be submitted in PDF format.

IMPORTANT DATES

Workshop Proposals Due: 20 February 2021 (earlier submission is encouraged)
Notification of Acceptance: 15 March 2021 (latest)
Workshop Paper Submission Deadline: 20 June, 2021
Notification to Workshop Paper Author: July 5, 2021
Camera-ready & Registration: July 15, 2021

Note that IEEE SERVICES has an institutional license with EasyChair and all submissions will be handled by the EasyChair system. More details will follow on the Website.

PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS

Proposals for workshops should not exceed 3 pages in length and must contain the following information:

  1. History of workshop under the umbrella of IEEE World Congress on Services, if applicable.
  2. Title and brief technical description of the workshop, specifying the goals and the technical issues that will be the focus of the workshop.
  3. A brief description of why and to whom the workshop is of interest.
  4. A brief description of any particular structure desired for the proposed workshop, subject to the approval of the Workshop Chairs as well as the feasibility of scheduling.
  5. A brief biography of the key organizer(s) who would be the chair(s) of the workshop to be organized. This should include key papers published in the proposed topic area, previous workshop organization experience, and other relevant information.
  6. A tentative list of Program Committee members for the proposed workshop.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Workshop chair(s) will be responsible for the following:

  1. Producing a “Call for Papers/Participation” for their workshop. It should mention that at least one author of each accepted submission must be presented in person* and that all workshop participants must complete the registration procedure for IEEE SERVICES 2021.
  2. Widely advertising the workshop beyond the Congress web page.
  3. Actively inviting experts to contribute as Program Committee members and as authors.
  4. Ensuring that all workshop papers are limited to a maximum of 6 pages in length (in IEEE format). (Up to 2 additional pages may be purchased subject to approval by the Publication Chair.)
  5. Assisting in the production of a camera-ready version of the IEEE SERVICES 2021 workshop proceedings.

DETAILS AND IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. All papers must be reviewed with a minimum of 3 good-quality reviews per paper. The workshop organizers should also try to observe an acceptance rate that should normally be in the range of 35-40%.
  2. A typical IEEE SERVICES Workshop consists of 2-3 sessions for ½ day or no longer than one full day with the understanding that there may be also a Congress-wide plenary session during a particular day. If the workshop is too small (i.e. does not attract enough submissions), the IEEE SERVICES 2021 Workshop Chairs may decide to merge that workshop with another. In extreme situations we may also cancel a workshop if the number of submissions does not justify the space and cost for its accommodation.
  3. To elevate technical quality of a workshop, workshop organizers can propose invited papers authored by well known scholars in their individual areas. However, all invited papers must also go through the usual rigorous peer review process.
  4. Each accepted paper, including invited ones, must be registered to IEEE SERVICES, and at least one of the authors must present the paper onsite or in-person online*. All attending authors must also register to IEEE SERVICES to each obtain a name badge.
  5. Workshop participants and organizers should not expect travel support nor registration discounts.
  6. Workshop proposals, once approved by the Workshop Chairs, will be automatically endorsed by IEEE subject to adhering to all IEEE policies.
  7. Workshop papers will be limited to 8 pages.
